Grupo Vidanta Foundation
the Grupo Vidanta Foundation is a non-profit institution for the promotion of social sciences and culture with a focus on Latin America. The Foundation was founded by Daniel Chavez Moran and began its activities in 2005 under the name Grupo Mayan Foundation. As of May 1, 2008, it adopted its present name. The current President of the foundation is Roberto Russell.

- La brecha entre América Latina y Estados Unidos. Determinantes políticos e institucionales del desarrollo económico., revised versions of the papers presented during the International Seminar “Explaining the Development Gap Between Latin America and the United States” held in Buenos Aires on November 10 and 11, 2005. Edited by Professor Francis Fukuyama, the book was published by Fondo de Cultura Económica in December 2006 (Buenos Aires). an english version of the books was published in 2008 by Oxford University Press as Falling Behind: Explaining the Development Gap between the United States and Latin America.
- América Latina:¿integración o fragmentación?, edited by President Ricardo Lagos, includes the thoughts of international analysts and scholars on Latin American international relations. The book was published by Editorial Edhasa in August 2008 (Buenos Aires)
- Argentina 2010. Entre la frustración y la esperanza edited by Natalio Botana and Argentina 1910-2010. Balance del siglo, edited by Roberto Russellm were published in 210 by Taurus in Buenos Aires They include the essays prepared for the Project “The Bicentennial: Lessons and opportunities, 1910-2010” (Argentine Chapter)
Prize
Grupo Vidanta Foundation Prize: Contributions to the Reduction of Inequality and Poverty in Latin America and the Caribbean is a joint initiative by the Organization of American States (OAS), the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB) and the Grupo Vidanta Foundation. Its aim is to provide recognition and support for outstanding projects carried out in Latin America and the Caribbean to reduce poverty and inequality and fight discrimination. [1]
The Award competition, to be held annually as from September 2009, consists of a first prize of $ 100,000.00 (one hundred thousand), and lesser second and third prizes, contributed entirely by the Grupo Vidanta Foundation. The prize was awarded for the first time on October 14, 2010 in Mexico City in an event organized by Daniel Chavez Moran.[2], [3][4]

- 2005 Buenos Aires conference, on “Explaining the Gap between Latin America and the United States,” held on November 10–11, 2005 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.[14] It was organized by the Foundation and the University Torcuato Di Tella of Buenos Aires, Argentina The Conference discussed the development gap between First World nations and Latin America.[15] Some speakers in the event included Jorge Domínguez, Tulio Halperín Donghi, Francis Fukuyama, Enrique Krauze, Celso Lafer, Adam Przeworski, James A. Robinson, Riordan Roett, Julio María Sanguinetti Hernando de Soto and Ernesto Zedillo In August 2008, Oxford University Press published the book "Falling Behind: Explaining the Development Gap between the United States and Latin America" edhited by Francis Fukuyama, which was a direct result of an investigation on this topic financed by Grupo Vidanta Foundation.[16] He said in his book "I owe thanks to everyone who played a role in the completion of this volume, especially Fundacion Grupo Mayan.".[17][18][19] The book was also published in Spanish by Fondo de Cultura Económica under the title La Brecha entre América Latina y Estados Unidos. Determinantes políticos e institucionales del desarrollo económico[20]
- 2007 Mexico City conference, in Meico City, on "Latin America: Fragmentation or Integration?". It was held by the Foundation in collaboration with ITAM and Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, .[21][22] World famous speakers included José Miguel Insulza, Eric Hobsbawn, Francisco Javier Solana de Madariaga, Mario Vargas Llosa and Ricardo Lagos.[23] An article published in the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars said about the Mexico City event:
It was one of the most distinguished gatherings of public intellectuals in recent Latin American history, diplomats, scholars, government officials, novelists, representatives of international financial institutions and non-governmental organizations came together in Mexico City on April 17–18, 2007, for the conference “Latin America:Integration or Fragmentation?”

The Argentine newspaper Clarín, awarded the Eikon Award to the organizer of the conference.
Arturo Fernandez Perez, director of ITAM opened the ceremony with his welcoming speech.[25]. Mario Vargas Llosa published a paper titled "Latin America: Unity and Dispersion" to address the topics discussed in Mayan Resort's Grupo Vidanta Foundation Event in 2007.[26][27]
Speeches and papers at the conference were presented by Ricardo Lagos, ex president of Chile ("Integration or Fragmentation of Latin America") and [28], Julio María Sanguinetti, ex president of Uruguay ("The Latin American Gap") [29].
Eric Hobsbawm, the British Marxist historian attended via video conference.[30]/ Celso Lafer was a commentator in the conference.[31], and Marcelo Ebrard, chief of Government for Mexico City, gave a closing speech.[32]
